River Tay

Combines with golf at Carnoustie, Panmure, and Gleneagles

The ‘mighty’ Tay is Scotland’s longest river at 117 miles and drains a massive 2000 square miles. The Tay starts its course high up on the slopes of Ben Lui in the far West, before eventually reaching the north sea at Dundee. Several of it’s main tributary rivers such as the rivers are indeed as big in size as many other independent Scottish rivers. The Tay is without doubt the King of Scottish salmon rivers. The fishing season officially opens on the 15th of January each year and closes on October the 15th. In 1922 the British rod caught record salmon of 64lbs was landed on the famous Glendelvine Beat by lady fisher Miss Georgina Ballantine.

River Tweed

Combines with golf at Muirfield, Gullane, North Berwick or Edinburgh

The River Tweed measures 97 miles, and is a name synonymous with salmon the world over, flowing down to the English border. It’s narrower than the Tay but represents very high quality Scottish salmon fishing and has a reputation for reliability. The River Tweed salmon fishing season commences on the 1st of February and finishes on the 30th of November making it one of the latest opening salmon fishing rivers in Scotland. The Tweed is predominantly a fly fishing river and offers a more traditional lowland river terrain with perfect & long fly fishing pools in abundance as it meanders down through the rich border arable land of South East Scotland.

River Dee

Combines with golf at Royal Aberdeen, Murcar and Cruden Bay

The River Dee is a beautiful salmon fly fishing river, measuring 87 miles with a catchment of 800 square miles. It starts its majestic journey 4000ft up in the Cairngorm mountains, flowing through some beautiful towns positioned along its course to Aberdeen. The stretch between Ballater & Braemar is commonly known as Royal Deeside. The season commences on the 1st of February and finishes on the 15th of October each year. The Dee is very much a fly fishing river with beautiful boulder strewn attractive clear water pools that ebb & flow down through various glides and fast water rapids throughout it’s entire length

River Spey

Combines with golf at Nairn, Castle Stuart, Boat of Garten or Moray Old Course

We perhaps associate the River Spey with whisky but it’s probably the most famous salmon & sea trout fishing river in the entire world, and the home of the much used traditional Speycast. It measures 107 miles in length from its source 1000ft up at Loch Spey in the Corrieyairack Forest which is located 10 miles South of Fort Augustus on Loch Ness.

The season opens on the 11th of February and runs through to the 30th of September each year. The Spey is fly fishing only and the fastest flowing river in Scotland making it a delight to fish a salmon fly through its perfect fly fishing pools and its mainly gravel riverbanks and riverbed which are constantly on the move during high water levels.
